Here's a little quiz to occupy your weekend - answer the following question as honestly as you can. You might want to cross-check your answers with your buddy or coach to get their opinion to make sure you're being as truthful as possible
What is your biggest issue right now in your freediving?
a) my technique (finning, body alignment, duck dive)
b) my equalisation
c) early contractions
d) stress before and/or during my dive
e) early turns/early surfacing
f) recurring injury (squeeze), BO/LMC
g) other
If you answered 'yes' to any of the the above questions apart from 'a) technique', and you're not meditating or practicing some kind of mindfulness or having mental coaching, you are missing the crucial link in your training.
To really improve your performance, first isolate the problem, ie is it technical, physical, or is it mental. 80-90 percent of divers are struggling with MENTAL issues, which manifest in PHYSICAL discomfort or problems (ie, answers b-f). Get honest about what's really going on for you, discuss it with your buddy or coach, and then take positive steps to address the mental issues that are holding you back.
One of the most effective ways is to start my online training courses. Manage Your Mind is now available. Or if you missed Deep Relaxation, you might like to start there to lay really solid foundations, and then move on to Manage Your Mind. I will be releasing a new course roughly every two months over the coming year to ensure you have plenty of time to really immerse yourself in this unique new approach, helping freedivers of all levels address the mental aspects of their training.
Contact me if you have any questions on this or any aspects of my Discover Your Depths trainings.
